Updating Nested Objects

<p>The trick to updating nested data is that every single nesting level requires copying and appropriate copying.</p>

<p>A lot of issues emerge from updating nested objects and beginner developers don’t quite understand the concept as it&#x27;s not only hard to understand but close to impossible to read.</p>

<p>In the code snippet below find the updating of <strong><samp>state.something.anything[id].fourth </samp></strong>:</p>

<p>The multilayered look of code isn’t visually pleasing to the naked eye and to some, it may deem uncomprehensible. This is why flattened code is highly encouraged in Redux.</p>

<p>The contents inside a JavaScript array are most commonly updated with push, unshift and slice. however, since we’re working with reducers we’ll avoid <strong>mutating </strong>state.</p>

<p>Instead, we’ll use “<strong><samp>insert</samp></strong>” and “<strong><samp>remove</samp></strong>” keywords as depicted clearly in the code snippet below:</p>

<p>You might notice the clear syntax and structural differences between the <strong><samp>removeItem </samp></strong>and <strong><samp>insertItem</samp></strong> functions, however, the <strong><samp>removeItem</samp></strong> function could just as well as followed the same syntax used in <strong><samp>insertItem </samp></strong>and vice versa, these are just two different ways to structure your code.</p>
